what ADSL router should I get?

    Hi,

    I already have a linksys wrt54gl flashed with DD-WRT.

I want an ADSL router which is stable over long periods and wont crash when there are many connections running through it, e.g torrents.

I dont want a wireless adsl router, as I already have the linksys, which is fantastic.

oh, I also want 4x ethernet ports. 100mbit. no need for 1gbit. I have a netgear rangemax atm, but it aint as good as the linksys, so its pretty redundant!!!

    any advice?

I use a D-Link DGL-4300 and it absolutely rocks (QoS is great for gaming). There is an updated version also with some extra stuff (Wireless-N, LCD display etc.)

    Your wrt54gl crashes?
Try a non DD-WRT firmware (which I find bloated) like Tomato. Its very very stable

You were referring to it crashing

Can't you just buy a old ADSL Ethernet modem and plug it into the uplink port on the WRT54? Anyone know if that wouldnt work?

Re: what ADSL router should I get?

That's the entire point, I currently plug my netgear adsl router into one of the LAN ports on the linksys (not the wan - as I wasnt able to access all of my network).

The whole point of this thread was to find a decent adsl router that I can plug into my linksys. Also, to have 1 computer running off the adsl router ,as the pc is right next to where the router is/will be!

    no!

    I know what I want!

I want a router (modem with more than 2 ethernet ports) so that I can plug in a pc directly to the router and run a wrt54gl off it with wireless people on it.

Re: what ADSL router should I get?

    ok....already answered this then,
    Get an ADSL MODEM.

if you want to keep using the WRT54GL then you only need a modem to do the broadband bit

if you get a 2nd router and still use the WRT54GL then you will run into loadsa trouble....and probably get very confused trying to route traffic.

if the WRT54GL isn't going to be used anymore get a Draytek 2820n.
