    Which Router?

I am unsure which of these routers to buy, whats the difference between the WRT54GL & WRT54GS?

    Linksys WRT54GS £37 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/63763

    Linksys WRT54GL £40 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/103185

Will be starting with a 2 PC Wired Ethernet network (one PC is Vista and one is Linux based), but want the future option to add wireless devices. There is no real price difference between the 2 so I just want to know which one is generally the best.

    Will be using P2P software.

Also have been advised to upgrade firmware to DD WRT can this be done on both?

    Re: Which Router?

From a quick look - both are for cable connections (they don't have built in ADSL modems) - the s version has a 'speedboost' feature - see the linksys pages for details. (Only appears to work with other speedbost devices - so it is a wireless feature)

Both will work with Linux/Mac/Windows (just TCP/IP networking.

DD WRT is a completely different operating system for the router - open source - which offers certain enhancements over that provided.

    Re: Which Router?

The GL will be easier to install an alternative firmware on (no need for VXWorksKiller), it will have the bigger 4meg flash on it. The latest GS only have 2meg on it.

For that price difference, the GL is a no brainer
