    Connecting to the internet

    hello,

I'm at a relatives house, and am trying to connect to the net using my laptop and their network. I've connected to their network (wired) with no problems, but I can't access the net. What do I have to do after connecting to the network to access the internet?

    Thanks!

    Re: Connecting to the internet

Are there other computers on the network that can access the internet?

Can you run ipconfig, hopefully you get something like this (network card is configured to get an ip address of the DCHP server on my router)
    Code:
    Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
    (C) Copyright 1985-2000 Microsoft Corp.

    D:\>ipconfig

    Windows 2000 IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:

            Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
            IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.101
            Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
            Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1

    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

            Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Cable Disconnected

    D:\>
if you get something like that you just need to set your browser to auto detect (famous last words)

On my PC on firefox Tools -> options, network tab -> select 'configure' and select auto detect proxy settings

    Yes, I shouldn't be using win2000 I know

Wow I think you're the first person I've actually helped, normally my posts end up been unhelpful - not intentionally.

I might retire on a winning streak, of one.
