    http sporadically stops (wireless connection)

    I have this problem with my desktop that surfing the internet (in either firefox or IE) grinds virtually to a halt randomly every now and again. What is strange is that that connections via other programmes such as utorrent, outlook continue as normal.

    My laptop connects wirelessly and never has any connections problems.

    I have Virgin Broadband and the modem is about 20 feet away from the PC, connected to a buffalo wireless router. The pc has a belkin PCI card. I have the latest drivers for the belkin card. I can sometimes fix the issue by rebooting everything. I'm not a fan of belkin hardware and I'm thinking of buying a new PCI card to see if that fixes the problem. Can anyone offer any help before I do so?

    Cheers.
    meh

    For symptoms like this, the thing I always initially check is the Windows event log ("system") for errors from the tcpip service which mention hitting the limit on the number of connections per second.

    start->run...
    eventvwr.msc

    (that works on XP Pro - dunno about Vista or XP Home)
