Mobile internet, what options are there?

I'm going away in September and the place where I will be staying as no wi-fi service I'll be away for 2 weeks and I don't think I can cope for that long without tinternet.

What options do I have for mobile broadband? I've seen these USB modems in the papers a lot lately, but they all seem to be on contracts. Are there any PAYG versions?

Could I use my mobile phone to connect my lappy to the net? I have a SE W800i on O2 PAYG, if so what would I need and what sort of prices to they charge for data usage?

    Thanks for any help

No matter what way you go its going to cost you a fair bit. I would use a local internet cafe, hotspot etc.

Oh and if you do decide you want 3G, stay away from O2 as they have recently admitted that their mobile broadband 3G service does not work correctly due to a software bug.

3 do a PAYG USB 3G modem, check the Bargain forums for the lowdown. I think Play.com have it on special offer too.

This may be a bit late - but PC pro have just done a review of the main suppliers of Mobile Broadband. I don't think it has not hit the shelves yet but it should be available online at pcpro.co.uk . From memory Vodafone came top - but for business users and T-Mobile came 2nd. warning Vodafone did want £15 per gb over your cap but T-Mobile were about £5. Plus as with mobiles - the rates go thrugh the roof even just across the channel!!
