LAN setup problems

Trying to network my Vista PC to my Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 PC through a Linksys WRT54GL router.

I'm a Noob and need help as I cannot seem to get these machines to recognise each other, I have manually configured them with static IPs (for other reasons) with similar Sub-groups but I am stuck and cannot seem to get any useful info off the net. I thought that Vista would automatically configure the link,but no.

BTW I manually configured the router instead of using the setup wizard if that make any difference, also both PCs can log onto the internet.

you need to mount the share within ubuntu using samba

sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=<windows user name here>,password=<windows user pass here> <Windows share> <Ubuntu mount directory>

par example: sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=TAKTAK,password=TAKTAK //VistaPC/SharedFiles /home/TAKTAK/shares/SharedFiles
