Limited or No Connectivity - Help

Hi , alright im going to get to the point , we have 4 systems that we are trying to get online (1. vaio desktop-base computer: Dell laptop: Vaio laptop: PS3 System)
We are using cable internet (we have contacted our Isp multiple times , and they can not figure out what is wrong, so I am coming to all of you for help.
We have a motorola modem/ microsoft router/wireless router
We have the cable-modem-router-1. direct line to vaio desktop , and the rest are wireless (dell laptop, vaio laptop , and ps3)
    Problem:
Desktop will connect fine, plug it in , connects: but all the other systems get limited or no connectivty. Alright so I did a direct connection from the router to the dell laptop (same way as the vaio desktop is) and it still shows limited or no connectivity through wired also. All wireless systems have worked through this modem and router. Here is the ipconfig for the vaio desktop:

    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

    Hey hacker

Are you using a PC as a router between the Modem and the users?

Surfboard modems bind a MAC addres of the first network card you attach, thats why when you plug in another system you get no connection.

Is this how it is now?

If so this is how I would set it up

Turn the cable modem off from the wall for about 5 minutes and it will clear the MAC address. Plug your cable router into the modem, turn the modem on and then the router. Set your router as a DHCP etc and you should be good to go.

Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.2.1.

You should see a box prompting you for your password. Enter your password now. By default your password is Admin. Click the Log On button to log in to your router.

right, that gets you into the router... i just need to figure out what menu DHCP will be in...

edit: going by the manual that i've just D/L'd

click on 'Local Arean Network' located in the left hand side menu

according to the manual there should be an option called 'DHCP Server', make sure that it is set to enabled

and the rest of the manual:

    3. If you do not want to use the IP address pool specified by the DHCP server, type a starting IP address and an
ending IP address for the pool. Do not include the base station IP address in the IP address pool. For example, if
you are using the default base station IP address (192.168.2.1), the address range must be between
    192.168.2.2 and 192.168.2.254.
    4. Select a lease time for the assigned IP addresses. The default time is two hours.
    5. Type a local domain name if your ISP provided one for you.
    6. To save your changes, click Apply.
    HERE is the manual

Re: Limited or No Connectivity - Help

After a quick hunt around on the MS KB, Ive found a brief article which covers how to log onto the router itself and have a play around, although it doesnt mention anything about DHCP . . . . . Im still looking for that, although I would have thought it would have all been done from the web interface?

    *EDIT* Damn you TAKTAK

Re: Limited or No Connectivity - Help

    try:
    67.43.254.34
    67.43.254.1
    192.168.0.1
    169.254.232.32

and see if any of those bring up the login page

if they don't work and/or you can't get into it with the password then you will have to reset the basestation...

Re: Limited or No Connectivity - Help

If he's Cat 5'd into the device 192.168.2.1 should be the address that works, and as it was stated that the box has been reset then it would default back to the 192 address.

Also its looking like when the Dell laptop is wired in, its not working because Automatic Private IP Addressing is assigning the device a 169.254.XXX address due to DHCP not being on/configured.

Re: Limited or No Connectivity - Help

On the back of the device there should be a VERY small hole that might or might not say reset etc, you will prolly need the end of a pen, or a pin to press the button? Press and hold that down for several seconds and again sorry for not being very specific but all the lights may light up, they may not etc, but this should 'factory' restore it back to the state it got to you in.

Re: Limited or No Connectivity - Help

reset the base station by using the reset button on the base station itself
That ^ i'm guessing you hold the button in until it starts flashing or something... and then wait for it to stop flashing...

edit: my turn for the beating

and if that doesn't work then you will have to restore factory settings...
