    I can't believe my luck !!!!!!!!!!!

OK guys, so I was on the hardware forum recently because my comp krapped itself and you guys gave me some good support and advice on new parts.

Anyway, rebuilt it, rebooted it and all is sweet... until last night.

Installed most of the main software, mobo drivers, office, kaspersky, spybot, firefox, nero, etc. Did a few restarts, installed Sony Vegas 8 and it downloaded netfix 3.1, I think.

So, it did a restart and all was well apart from the network connection.

    It's now got limited connectivity.

Tried installing updated network drivers but no use.

    Ran ipconfig, syas:

Connection specific DNS Suffix . :
    Autoconfiguration IP Address . . . : 169.254.202.80
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . . . :

    My service provider is Sky.

Would appreciate any advice, just got this btch working and now no intra-web! Ragin!

    Re: I can't believe my luck !!!!!!!!!!!

That IP address means that Windows is not receiving a DHCP IP address from your sky box. I don't have sky myself, so I can't tell you for sure what you can hard code it to.

Are you sure your Sky modem/router is on? Maybe try resetting it?

If you're seeing that, then the chances are it's not a problem with your network card.

    Re: I can't believe my luck !!!!!!!!!!!

Just before you posted i tried resetting the router and now in network connections it shows the connection as connected and firewalled but still there is no intra-web connection.

    ran ipconfig and it says:

Connection specific DNS Suffix . : home
    Autoconfiguration IP Address . . . : 192.168.0.2
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

    Close but no cigar!

Can you give us a little more info?

Presumably you can access the net on your connection from another machine?

Ok, so now you're connected to your router. How about:

    ping www.gmail.com

    ping 64.233.183.18

    tracert 64.233.183.18

What do you get from those commands?

    Re: I can't believe my luck !!!!!!!!!!!

Check device manager and see if your network adapter is functioning correctly, hard wired yes? try different cables also and that they are connected correctly (no brainers I know but you never know)

Also check the properties of the network connection and set everything to auto i.e. IP and DNS, you'll connect but get no internet connection if a. you've put the dns in wrong or b. if you've tried to allocate a lan ip address that is outside of the range of the gateway (router)

More... check software firewalls etc aren't blocking access.
