moving further from exchange what loss of speed should i expect

as the title says am moving further from my exchange.
    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/NDHAS

thats my local exchange i live right by the little train station sign so less than 500yds direct to my exhange (that explains why i get up to 20mbps)
current speed at 8pm friday evening is
    http://www.speedtest.net/result/326020501.png

currently on skymax 16mb unlimited package which is superb

but now moving about 2 miles away from my exchange.

what kinda speed will i get how much could i lose as i was gonna drop to the 8mb package as the 16mb may be overkill.

if i am gonna lose a couple of megs of speed then i will keep the 16mb.

    thanks in advance for advice/help

it's likely to be significant - I believe 2km is the point at which the bottom drops out. put your new postcode into the checker at samknows and you should get a rough idea.

Re: moving further from exchange what loss of speed should i expect

well to get from my current flat to new one by car which is a little long winded (one way systems) is 1.4 miles so direct i would say 1.1 miles tops to the exchange

samknows says 1.211 miles says 8.5mbps for adsl2

Samknows said I'd get around 7.5mbps from my Be* connection, I get around 13.5 (with Annex M, so in theory could get a little more), so you should be just about ok.

Too many variables - actual length of the line, the condition of the line, the type of line and the sensitivity of your router are all factiors - until you get there, you won't really know.

Re: moving further from exchange what loss of speed should i expect

If your line is good and it's length is 3km then you'll get just around 8 meg. That's assuming the worst. Assuming it's 2km like the 1.2 miles you mentioned then you'll get around 15meg in the best scenario. This is without fastpath taken into account

Ooh I can't wait to see how this actually turns out

My line is around 2.9km and I get 14meg sync but with fastpath I can reach the 16meg speeds. Suprisingly I'm only 700m from the exchange as the crow flies.

Re: moving further from exchange what loss of speed should i expect

Well I live about 2km from the exchange but either the line goes a very roundabout way or else is in very poor condition because I phoned up Be (up to 24Mb) and when they checked they told me that the best I could expect from them would be about 1.5Mb.

No alternative to cable for me as far as I can see.

I moved less than a mile and I have a rubbish connection on Sky now.
Before I was close and not many people in my area connected but now I have dropped from 10mb to 3-4mb....
    Rubbish!
Luck of the draw...wish we had access to cable

Re: moving further from exchange what loss of speed should i expect

left it about a week of being online before i tested my line so i could let it settle.

but it seems my speed is still pretty good being further away from the exchange.

it does slow down a bit at peak times to about 10-12mb but can live with that.

Re: moving further from exchange what loss of speed should i expect

    speeds are good yep. moogle

also good is the fact we have been here 3 weeks now and bt dont seem to have sent us the £125 bill for installing the new phone line,

our account balance is exactly the same with them so am keeping fingers crossed that they have made a mistake or something and wont bill us
