    Small Home Network

    I have just upgraded from the old to new BT Homehub. Prior to the upgrade i could access all of my shared files on my laptop(connected wirelessley via the hub)from my PC and visa versa. I could also print from the laptop onto the printer connected to my desktop PC. Both laptop and PC are on Vista Premium. The firewalls are off. In the network sharing centre both show (when the map is selected) eachother, a switch, the home hub and the internet. The graphics suggest that they should all be connected . In the network and sharing center of both I have set up full sharing on a private network but when I select view computers and devices all the laptop finds is itself and the hub and the desktop finds is itself and the hub, neither find eachother. Any ideas how I can get these 2 buggers to talk?

    Can you ping the PCs from eachother?

    Can you access each PC from the other via their IP or share name?

    Thanks for the reply. I was worried someone was going to start using this "ping" term. I've read it in the other threads. Please can you describe how I ping the PCs from eachother? Can you also describe how I can check if I can access each PC from the other via their IP or share name?

    Get the internal ip's of the computers on your lan (usually displayed in the router)

    For instance if PC 1 = 192.168.1.3 and PC 2= 192.168.1.4, then in PC 1 you would go into Command Prompt (Start>Run>cmd) when the black box pops up simply type "ping 192.168.1.4" to ping PC 2, it will then give you a result.

    Regards, Monk.

    Thanks for your help Monk

    I did what you said and both ways gave me 100% loss (no success). I was able to ping the router from both PC and Laptop though.

    Re: Small Home Network

    What are the IP addresses of your two computers and router? If the first three numbers aren't the same, you might have some problems, although because it was working before, it seems unlikely.

    It might be that the router is blocking traffic for some reason?

    Or in layman's terms:

    Start -> Run -> cmd

    ipconfig /all

    On both machines, then cut + paste the output here.

    Re: Small Home Network

    Doh - Norton Online security firewall was blocking traffic. I had turned off the windows firewall and had forgotton that I had a second firewall.

    Many thanks to all that have contributed.
