Hey guys,
I am reinstalling a Dell B130 Laptop for a friend of mine. I did a standard XP install from a normal disk instead of using the Dell reinstall thinking I would be getting away from a lot of the bloatware that comes with the standard install. Little did I know that I would be causing myself more headaches than it's worth.
Windows installed fine, and seemed to be working alright. She doesn't have a built in wireless adapter and uses a USB Linksys WUSB54GSC wireless adapter. I installed the drivers from the disk and it seems to work fine. It can locate and connect to wireless networks. The network even reached a connected status, not just 'limited connectivity' like it usually does when there are issues. However, it doesn't seem to be receiving an IP address from DHCP like it should. It says Invalid IP Address for the IP. It will wait a while and then say "Automatic Private Address" at which point nothing else will happen. I can't access any internet. The router has been restarted and works fine. I am currently accessing internet through it from my desktop. The laptop has been restarted with no improvement. I tried using a cable to connect it to the router but I can't even get the LAN to show up. I'm guessing I need to install the drivers for the NIC so this isn't a surprise. I'm going to try to get NIC drivers and then do a Windows Update while wired and see if anything improves.
Does anyone here have any other ideas for me to pursue though as I don't really expect this to work?
Thanks in advance.
John
