Evening,
I got a 8-port gigabit switch recently and an additional gigabit nic for my other machine. Connected it all up with the gigabit devices on the gigabit switch and the old fast ethernet devices connected directly to the router.
The older machine with the new nic works fine, connects at 1Gbps and all is well. The newer machine however (onboard nic - ip35-pro) is very flaky. It shows the speed as 100mbps still. I made sure the settings were set to auto negotiate at 1st, and then later forced full duplex gigabit. Neither worked.
I thought i had it pinned down to the cable, as when i changed the cable it connected as 1Gbps. So i re-routed all of my cables (major ball ache) and re-checked the connection - back to 100mbps again.
Interestingly the old cable i just ripped out now works in 1Gbps when connected![]()
I'm guessing this is down to interference from the TV? or speakers maybe? The cable does run behind the A/V cabinet, however i'm not so sure, because it seems sporadic regardless of how i route the ethernet cable, or which cable i use. Any tips/ideas?
Thanks
