    Wireless router power adapter

Hi, just picked up a cheap wireless router from ebay but it has no power adapter. It requires a 5.1v DC 3A, what would happen if I used the power cable from my Draytek 2800? Boom?

Any ideas where I might find an adapter that would work? It's a BT 2wire 2700HGV if that helps.

    Tia.

    Re: Wireless router power adapter

You need to check the power output of the adapterand the polarity. Otherwise you could gert a generic adapter from somewhere like Maplin. The Draytek adapter is 15Volts output, so it would probably destroy the one you have just bought.

How cheap is cheap? You will probabaly not get a power suply for less than £5 and then there's postage on top so you are looking at circa £8 to £10

May have been more economical to buy a brand new wireless router for about £20 such as this one:

    Re: Wireless router power adapter

I have a dead Draytek 2600We at home - will check what the power supply is rated at to see if it will work with your 2700HGV

Would a 5v power adapter work? as long as it's giving 3A or more?

Yes - that should be fine. You would probably get away with anything up to 6 Volts - but without inspecting the circuitry, I wouldn't gurantee it!

Found this which would do the job without problems. (Although you might need to check the output connector)

    Re: Wireless router power adapter

    Hi

Actually a 5V power adaptor would work as long as its 3A or more as peter says but you will also need to check the polarity of the connector - my Draytek is more than 5v. So the connector can have the insiode positive and outside negative or vice versa - not sure if it will damage your unit if you use an adaptor with the polarity the wrong way round but sounds like it might
