    Help finding a wireless router

Hey guys, continuing on from this thread ive decided its time to ditch the Netgear and get a new router. The netgear was a pain in the arse really so I would prefer to stay away from them this time (although its a matter of opinion I guess)

Dont want to over spend, something around the £50 mark - roughly. Nothing special I need really, a few things I would need the router to have:

    - Im on a DSL connection so the router would need to be ADSL.
    - Router would need to have wireless capabilities.
    - Something relatively fast, Wireless-G is fine.
    - Good security
    - and lastly, good reliability (no preference to any make, although I hear good things about linksys)
....dont ask for much do I??

Looking forward to hearing your recommendations from you knowledgable folk

Zoom x6 (with free wireless adapter)
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/140644

Updated from a zoom x5 (which was superb) and the x6 is just as easy and friendly to use and setup as the x5. Rock steady

I've posted this before recently but have a look at Buffalo and Linksys routers, specifically if you go to the DD-WRT and Tomato site they have a supported routers section.
I use Tomato on a Buffalo at the moment and the firmware is really good, it gives you features like QOS, increasing signal strength and lots of other neat features, have a look on the website

Very informative, thanks for that mate. So does that mean I could put the Tomato/DD-WRT firmware on any router that I choose? Cos that would be excellent...

Re: Help finding a wireless router

Heard nothing but good things about the Linksys ones, specially with the firmware support. I'd stay away from netgear purely based on the personal experience of having two break, ymmv however.

Installed my 5th 834GT ( all ex sky ones re-flashed with the newest firmware ) for family and friends on different isp's and not one of them have complained, in fact most have stated they have been rock solid.

Another vote for Linksys here. Was having no end of grief with an el'cheapo thing. Grabbed a WRT54GL off the back of advice I recieved here and am absolutly chuffed to bits with it.

One thing though, AFIAK your gonna want a 54GL if open source Firmware is of serious interest to you. Think the other models like the GS can take it, but something to do with less Ram and stuff limiting your options somewhat, experts will know Anywho, don't think that one you linked to is?

Cheapest place I found with one in stock a few weeks back was http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/660/867...archtype=genre Allthough tbh I havent bothered with Firmware yet as it seems to be working perfectly straight outta the box.

Not any router, it has to be one of the supported ones, see here , I used the Buffalo one and its been brilliant, out of the list the Linksys or Buffalo ones are probably one of the better ones to go for.
