Hi All,
My first attempt at playing with CAT5 and holes in walls... so I hope you can help.
Background:
The BT Master Socket is in an extension surrounded with Metal Girders and the signal from the Wireless router won't reach upstairs. To avoid a hefty £150 fee to move the socket i'd like to run some cable. I could use a repeater but cable's more reliable.
The Router is currently in the Hall. What I want to do is drill a hole to the left of the front door in the hall and one in the wall of my second story room and run a CAT5e cable externally along the wall (6metres) - and then put an ethernet plate on both ends on the inside wall.
Questions that I hope you can answer for me:
- Would the (comparitively cheaper than external) CAT5e survive outside? - Only needs to last a few months.
- What do I use to seal the drilled hole around the cable on the outside to protect against wind?
- What kind of clips do I use to clip the cable to the side of the House?
- And when I need to remove the cable - How easy is it to fill the holes as if there was nothing there? And How?
Thanks for all the help
Dan
