HP Proliant DL380 G3

In the process of trying to set up a small office network with a HP Proliant DL380 G3 Server and windows server 2003.

The software installed fine following the windows guide but one thing I have noticed is that there is only two hard disks recognised, each of 36GB where the Server has four 36GB SCSI fitted.

Would I be right in thinking that the server has configured them in pairs so 0 and 1 are the same, 2 and 3 etc. I am fairly certain that I did not set them up when windows was installing for dynamic, raid, mirror etc. Problem is I am trying to set the network up as time permits and the software was installed 7 weeks ago and only just got around to connecting it up to switch!

probably 2 x RAID 1 arrays.

Its worth looking into though, you don't want them to be RAID 0

Its been a while since I used the DL380G3 but I am sure if you reboot and press F8 at the SmartArray controller prompt you can get into the RAID setup screen, it should tell you in there.

Checked usiing F8 and the drives are set as Raid 1 and show as set 0 and set 1

you can also install the proliant support pack for the G3 that will give you the HP managment utils to be used within windows.

If you run the raid config utility in windows, the LEDs on the front should flash giving you a clear indicator of which drives are in the array you have highlighted as well.

Downloaded the Smart software and installed. The drive led's are blinking in pairs so it does seem that they have been configured as 0 + 1 and 2 + 3. Now that bit is done I only have the network to sort and is it giving me serious problems, so another post coming up I think.
