    BT phone line upgrade.

Will BT upgrade the wiring coming into the house. Mine is like old figure of 8 bell wire. Do they now use twisted pair or screened cable?

New cabling is twisted pair (in fact I think it is cat5e) but BT will only upgrade it if it is causing problems. If you have problems with the phone, then you should contact your phone service provider (if it isn't BT) who will arrange for any changes. If you think it is an ADSL problem, you should raise it with your ADSL provider who again will arange for BT openreach to repair. You cannot ccontact BT Openreach directly as you do not have a contract with them (they are not retail service providers)

    Re: BT phone line upgrade.

Standard phone line is twisted pair, not shielded; new wiring typically carry two pairs of pairs, to make a second line easier, but only one is put live.

Unless there's a fault, unlikely anyone else will pay for your wiring to be replaced. But if you're after faster DSL speeds, you could look at improving the wiring in your house; I got an extra 2Mbps by just disconnecting extensions I didn't need etc.. If you have a modern master socket, ask your ISP for an "iPlate", which can often help reduce interference (if you're with BT, their tech help will often send these free).
