    ''My wireless Connection''

    Dear all,

After 2 months of pulling my hair out over my wireless connection I thought I'd give the advice thing a go, so here goes.

I am connected (Just) to a household wireless network in which I rely upon a 'Sitecom' USB wireless network Adaptor.

Currently my signal strength is always low, (or worse), the rate fluctuates between 2.2mbps and goes only as high as 48.0 mbps I am no more than 15 metres from the Wireless aerial which is outside the window. There is one internal wall and one external wall between me and the aerial which should not affect things.

In the last two months I have not been able to do anything properly here so forget trying to view top gear on Iplayer!!! can someone suggest how I can improve this? how to fix it? I am not very good at networking at all and have only been gifted microscopic amounts of patience!!

This week I also bought a pair of the MSI homeplug mega epower85's to try to run the network from the router round the electrical supply to a plug in my room (This hasnt worked either) what can I do here?

I would appreciate any advice you can offer.

    Cheers.

Okay, so you're using a USB wireless adapter. Is it on a laptop or a desktop? Where is the machine/USB adapter positioned in relation to the wireless access point?
Also, you say your speed varies between 2.2mbps and 'only' 48.0mbps, I assuming those are numbers that Windows is reporting rather than file transfer tests you've done?
Can't really comment on the homeplug jobbies but they should give you some sort of network rather than nothing at all, what exactly was the problem?

Why on earth havent the homeplugs worked???!?

I've run these through an industrial electrical installation and plugged the second plug on a cable over 200 metres long and they've still worked 100%???

In case he forgets to close this topic...

He's fixed it now, he needed a 5m length of network cable and Maplins sold him cross-over cabling which of course is the wrong type.

    Re: ''My wireless Connection''

Thanks for Help the problem was indeed Cross over cable!! (Mis sold by Maplins- then gave me hassle when trying to return the cables sold in un-openable packaging) Another story! It works great with the Straight through. Sorry I havent responded its been a bit hectic.
