    Re: Recommned networking books

    I used this...

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sams-Teach-Y.../dp/0672325659

to learn the basic underlying technology of networking/web.

At the time I thought that a lot of it was not going to be relevant, but over the years, a fair bit of it has came in handy.
Some of the old-time admins that I've talked to seem pleasantly surprised that a relative newbie has a grasp on the basics.
I read 2-3 hours worth per day with a bit of practical fiddling thrown in and I had the basics covered in a couple of weeks. Most of the rest I learned on the job as I went as it was pretty specific to the company.

I'd recommend going to a local library, or book shop to have a look through (or borrow) any books before buying, It'll give you a much better idea if the book is relevant.

There's tons of online info of course, but it's nice to have a book to hand. easier to study on the bus/train/toilet etc.

    --EDIT--

just noticed this one which is more general and may be better if networking is totally new to you... (cheaper too)

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Teach-Yourse...ref=pd_sim_b_1

There may be better books out there, but I like these because they are nicely structured.
