Apparently Sky's press office have confirmed that their broadband will be going up by £5 in the new year - even their "free" one! Seems to be a ploy to make you take their phone calls too, but they can be expensive. Any tips who I should move to?

Only the same price if you're on Skytalk.
I just went for it, figured it's 50p cheaper than BT line rental anyway + only £5/month for 6 months + my BB won't go up for a while. Never use the landline anyway so very small saving for me I guess.
Be* cut prices by 50p with the new VAT, not much but its actually a larger cut than they should
i.e. Be* unlimited package should be ~£17.62, but its £17.50 instead, looks neater I guess.![]()
This might be worth reading for some:
I do have the basic Talk option (the free one) so I won't be affected by this price increase. My line rental remains with BT and I've no intention of transferring that - I've found it easier to complain and get results when line related problem have occurred.Customers who take either Sky Broadband Max, Sky+HD or Sky Multiroom (or a combination of the 3) will automatically see their current broadband pricing frozen until January 2010, in recognition of their loyalty
phew, im with skytalk already..
so are the letters a mass output or are they tailored to the individuals account etc?
Yep. A while ago the line had an intermittent noise issue, whereby I couldn't use the internet and phone concurrently, which ultimately turned out to be their corroded fixings - 100 yards away underground. It took 3 visits over the course of 14 months (intermittent faults are a mare to detect and diagnose) and the first of those I was charged for (£150). Once the problem was solved, I contacted their complaints department and not only got that charge refunded, I also had that quarter's bill paid for as compensation.
If I'd have been with Sky, I can imagine I would have had a whole lot more hassle with having to deal with being bounced from pillar to post, or rather Sky to BT. Sky might take over your line rental but they're still going to be relying on BT for repairs.
