    WoL

    Hi guys,

I've recent purchased a new pc to use as a NAS with ACPI 3.0 support.

Would it be possible to set it to wake-up-on-lan when for example I attempt to access it via windows file sharing? Or is this going to be a job for a customised router? If so do you know what the most efficient power state I can leave the NAS in is when it's not in use?

    Many thanks.

    Re: WoL

WoL requires that the NIC be sent a "magic packet" - if you tried to connect to the machine whilst it was asleep using Windows networking it would simply not respond. There are freeware apps that you can use to send this packet, but I don't think what you are asking for is possible.
