    Internet being silly.

Basically upgraded from 2mb line to 8mb with Tiscali and pay them for the phone line now. Got the email confirming the upgrade had been done on Monday and its been doing it since then.

But now the internet is constantly dieing. Is this because Tiscali are rubbish or do I have to do something to my router..?

    The error im getting is...

    Connection Test Failed

Make sure your device is connected to a telephone jack using the included phone wire. Otherwise contact your ISP.

If your ISP gives you a static (fixed) IP address, please configure the Internet settings on the device (click here to access the web configurator)

It does it so often ive lost count.

Before any one says I have checked its connected and no we didnt get a static IP. Does anyone have any ideas before I go ringing up Tiscali on Friday if its still happening?

Sounds like could be a signal type issue if you are able to connect and then the connection dies. Might be worth phoning them and saying exactly whats happening.

WHen i did that with sky, they upped the speed of my line untuil we found a stable connectino speed then set it at that.

if you have a bad line then after an upgrade the line will try and find a stable speed to run at. During this time your connection will drop out and if your line is really bad you will eventually end up with a slow connection profile.

try putting my router to g.dmt. it should make the connetion more stable. also would be a good bet to ring up ur isp and ask them to increse the speed on ur line or to drop the speed on ur line. may be the signal to noise may be to low so it keeps dropping at peak hours.

    Re: Internet being silly.

what speed do you actually get when the connection is up ? most broadband now comes as a BT dslmax product (I assume it not local loop just stabdard BT resold broadband) in which case it will take up to 10 working days for the line to find a stable speed as it will keep trying to get the best speed possible. If the problem persist after 10 working days of migrating check with your ISP they may need to get a capped speed rather that BT max service.
