    disable firewall?

    Hi,

I have an ATT DSL/modem/router with four ports. Four computers directly connected from router & networked. The other day, I got a new DirectTV receiver/DVR. Found out I could connect it to the internet to download movies. Got out a Microsoft MN-100 router that I have so that I could connect one computer and the DVR through it to the web and to the network. No good. Both devices are online, but the computer has disappeared from the network. Is this a firewall or a port issue? If it's the firewall built in to the router, how can I disable it? I don't need it. I don't have the CD that came with the router, but I know where to download the software if necessary.

to clarify - you have an adsl modem/router with PCs connected though it to the internet, and you have also connected up a second router to the first router, which you are connecting the DirecTV box to the internet with?

Why use a second router? I've no idea if both routers play nicely with RIP, but if not then this is likely your problem. Are you using the MN1000 to bridge wirelessly to your main router?

    Re: disable firewall?

Never sure if I'm asking the right questions. My ATT router has four ports, all being used. At one location, I want to add one more cable. Thought the easiest way would be to put in the MN-100, since I already had it. Wired, not wireless. Is there another way I can "split" the wire at that point? One that wouldn't confuse things?

Pick up a cheap switch, that's what you need.
