Cheapest broadband for my old grandaddy

Right guys, hes currently on AOL that hes been on for a few years now, they havent reduced the price so i think hes paying close to £30 a month + his line rental !

So whats the cheapest option for him, only uses it for emails/bit of surfing really, he has a BT phone line and i think his line rental is with them, he doesnt have a mobile phone or sky etc so no exisiting contracts, a wireless router would be nice ( pretty much standard now i presume ) to save the wire going across his bedroom.

    Cheers in advance guys

Even though Tiscali (Pipex) haven't caused me any major problems, I would avoid them just in case your were thinking about them, customer service is a bit naff.

Be very aware that with ISP's cheapest really isn't always the best. If you are near your exchange you may have fewer issues than I did with cheap deals (bl**dy tiscali). If your ol' grandaddy isn't so lonely that he gets a buzz out of waiting on the phone to talk to technical support it might be worth considering the quality of service.

Between them AOL and BT managed to completely disconnect my poor 'ol mum for nearly 2 months at a time when my sick brother was overseas (100's of pounds of phone calls, angry letter writing, stress etc.)

There are many comparison sites out there take, your time to have a look at some of the comments (remembering of course that people are more likely to moan about problems than pile on the praise when its going well).

I find dslzone useful for comparisons and when I need a rant and they have a good ratings page.

Also have a look at uswitch. It is far from exhaustive but can offer savings if they find an ISP you are interested in.
