    Exclamation remote power switch??

    hello everyone....

    i am searching for some sort of remote power switch to turn my NAS unit on and off without having to go downstairs to do it manually. it would be nice to have up to 3 grounded outlets on it....and not all that expensive

    any ideas??

    wouldn't simply turning off the power to a NAS could corrupt data/HDDs if they were in the middle of doing something??

    I would check if your NAS supports Wake on Lan.... that way you could send a signal from your computer to it to power it on... and then use the NAS interface to shutdown properly??

    which NAS do you have??

    remote in and issue the shutdown command..

    then power cycle to bring it back online as most wake on power anyway.

    ya i later realized that about possibly corrupting data....so im not too sure about the just cutting the power and idk what to do now haha guess i just gotta walk.....and i have the Hammer N1200 2 terabytes

    If the nas has delayed write, then cutting the power increases the liklihodd of data corruption, particularly if you don't have a journalling file system. far better to do a controlled remote shutdown (as someone suggested) so the system is shut down in an orderly fashion, open files closed and file systems unmounted correctly.

    Personally I ssh to mine and issue shutdown. But tbh it stays on most of the time!
