Netgear DG834GUK - Reduced Downstream Rate

I asked for advice on a wireless adsl router here. The unit works nicely with one exception; it doesn't want to give me the correct donwstrea rate therefore my IP profile has changed. It is not the line as I connect (and still use) my old linksys (with it's dodgy 4 port switch) and that gives me my correct downstream rate (and therefore IP profile).

Moogle was helping me all last night and unfortunately we couldn't work out why we can't get the ideal downstream rate. It is like the Netgear is conditioned to keep the SnR above 12dB which hampers it great as this will only give me around 1200kbps. On the old linksys, a downstream SnR of 9db gave me over 2700kbps.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Maybe its time to stick the DGteam firmware on it?.. then you can tweak the settings for SNR.
I managed to get my sync speed up from 6000 to 7400 by changing it. its had no effect on line staiblilty either

Yah :/ it's already way past the cooling period to change it too. I still don't get why it puts the SNR so high, incompatibility with the provider or faulty modem?

Used both old and new filters and interchanging last night with the linksys and netgear. Linksys always picks up the right downstream speed, netgear always at least 1000kbps slower.

it might be just really conservative. a 3db is considered "the limit" a 6 "average" and 9 "super rock solid" so its only one more step up... there are ways to change it but its a fiddle and varies with the versions, so finding that outs pretty much step one

You know people with v3 of this modem is there no way to get DMT working? Are we just screwed by netgear's incompetencies? (I mean 4 versions of the same router, how confusing is that...)

PFT!!! I have you know I was watching "To Aru Majutsu no Index" last night (well early this morning) so I wan't sleeping just yet. The dummy bit is true though so I won't argue that point.
