Exclamation Wireless Adapter cannot connect with AES (but works with TKIP)!

    Hey,

I'm using a 3Com 3CRUSBN175 USB wireless-N adapter to connect to a 3Com 3CRWDR300A router with WPA2 enabled. The PC with the USB adapter and a laptop with an Intel 4965AGN can both see and connect to the network when TKIP encryption is used.

However, when I turn on AES, the USB adapter is not even able to see the network! It is fully certified for 128-bit AES according to the website. I am using the latest drivers/firmware for all kit involved.

    Any ideas please?!

    Cheers,

    Suman

I assume the Access-point supports and is configured to use AES? The fact that TKIP works suggest if it does support AES, it is not enabled?

Yes, the router is set to use WPA2-AES. As I said, my laptop (which has an Intel 4965AGN) is able to connect with AES, so I guess the problem is not likely to lie with the access point...

One odd thing about the laptop though... using TKIP it only connects at 54g speeds, but with AES enabled it gets a much better signal and connects at the full whack for 802.11n (144MB as I am only using two aerials).

I was going to suggest that the Intel was perhaps set to AES but falling back to TKIP instead but from what you have said about speeds this is probably not the case.

The problem here could be with different manufacturers and 802.11n not being finalised yet, that they are just not both using the same revisions of 802.11n. Similar problems were quite common when 802.11g was in its pre-finished state.

Hmm you may well be right... bit frustrating when the adaptor and router came bundled together though, lol!

Will do some more testing and update here is anything results from it!

    Thanks,

    SOLVED!

Realised that the adapter was plugged into a USB1.1 port (old Asus A7V333), so plugged it into a USB 2.0 - now works perfectly, at up to 270Mbps. Very random, but wooooo!!

    Cheers
