    No BT Master Socket

After reading about the iplate today i decided i wanted to see if i would benifit from so off i went round the house to find the bt master socket to plug my router into to test if i would benefit.

So half and hour later after visting all the socket in the house i still can't find one. Went outside orginal phone cable and found it ran into my garage. So went in there and followed it until it came to a Grey box in which all the phone sockets for my housr an out off.
Does this mean i dont have a BT master socket.

    Great

How much would bt charge to fit a Master Socket. I'm ready for bad news

The thing is though my house was built in the 90's and i thought by then every new house had a master socket.

fit your own, its not hard hooking up 2 wires, infact, just check wires 2 and 4 are the only ones connected and save money on the iplate

sod paying bt to come out and fit a master socket then run a cable to the splitter

    Re: No BT Master Socket

    How old is the house?

If the wiring was done pre NTE5 faceplate then BT will fit an nte5 for free you just need to contact your isp.

If its a new property and the line was terminated by the builders(happens in a lot of new build situations) then Sometimes BT will come and fit an NTE5 depending on how nice the engineer is.

If you get BT out to fit an NTE5 however the Iplate will be of no use as it only works on pre openreach sockets.

    Re: No BT Master Socket

nearly all modern phones dont need the ringer wire anyway, meaning the iplates not needed

virgin media dont fit the ringer wire as there isnt many bell phones left in the uk.

From what i read the iplate filters the ringer cutting interfernace. The new openreach sockets i think already have it built in.

I think my hose was built in the 90's which i think is after NTE5 so it looks like the builder terminated the wire. (Stupid builders. The built everything weird. Even the light bulb had two earths, two lives and one neutral. How odd is that)

Looks like i could be fitting one my self. I'm just aware that doing that means if i have a phone problem bt will make me pay for it even if it was going to be free as it could have been down to my faulty wiring.

    Re: No BT Master Socket

Thats right, so by merely disconnecting said unnecessary bell wire, you eliminate 1. the interference and 2. the need for an Apple iPlate.
    Moo.

    Re: No BT Master Socket

Well after doing more research i'm planning to open up the phone sockets and dissconnect the ring wires.
This hould give me better speed espically on a star phone connection which i assume mine is.

I'm guessing thats the first box that enters the house?

How many sockets do you have in the house?

There is this on the outside and theres a white cable that comes through the wall on the other side running to the box already pictured.

In total theres about 7 sockets but one of them is done through another socket if you see what i mean.

    Re: No BT Master Socket

Those are BT sockets, just rugged outdoor ones.

Have you taken the cover off the one inside the garage? You might just find a normal socket hidden away inside it..

Haven't taken the cover off in the garage yet. Thought i'd do a bit of research about it first.

I can't seem to find anything about it on the internet.
