    Tiscali toast?

Reports in BBC, CNET and The Register's RSS feeds that shares have been suspended, takeover talks with Sky have stopped and interest on loans are being negotiated.

Looks like there could be a cessation of 'service' if T stops trading.

    Time to move, methinks.

    Re: Tiscali toast?

Tiscali has just taken over Pipex after Pipex took over Tucan.....since Tiscali gained control my net speeds [which should be around 6 - 8meg] deminish to less than 400k at peak times. They will sell out to somebody whom hopefully, will provide a decent service at last.

    Re: Tiscali toast?

I don’t feel sorry for a company like Tiscali, poor management, poor decisions, poor value for money and poor customer service.

    They had it coming.

That sums it up in a nutshell.

I was sick of calls at night after I'd finished work asking "why is my internet slow/slowing down/pages not loading?" and guess what the common factor between all the people located in a 12 mile radius was? Yeah, Tiscali was their ISP.

I reckon for internet access you should pay a bit more - around 20 UKP a month for a reliable service.

Anyone who wants it for around 7-8 quid a month deserves what they get really.

Well... apart from O2 with their mobile user discount factored into their charge

I forgot that they're that cheap now, but worth every penny

As long as you're not on their Home Basic service - which is sucking donkey balls at the moment.

150ms ping to a server less than 40 miles from my door - brilliant, thanks BT, for providing such a wonderful service for o2 to use.

That’s the problem with the Indian call centres; they all read off a troubleshooting script and have very little technical knowledge. There are hundreds if not thousands of unemployed British helpdesk technicians who are skilled; but these companies who provide a service in the UK prefer to outsource and save money instead of providing jobs for a country they drain money from.

Can't fault them really. It's just works.

I think it's my area though as my friend has tiscali as well and he finds them fine.
    Guess i just got lucky.

Yep we have been with them for over two years and they have been fine too. Very occasionally sometimes there is slow service during weekends but apart from that the download speeds seem within what they have specified for the package we have. Sometimes this problem has been due to our router overheating sometimes though as it is near to a hot water pipe!!
Another thing is that we bought our own router too. Some of my relatives were with Sky and the internet was very slow. It soon turned out that the problems were due to a combination of incorrect settings at the Sky end and firmware problems with their supplied router. Once the settings were changed and the router firmware was updated the slowness vanished.

    Re: Tiscali toast?

Another £7.34 O2 users here, paying a mere 15 a month for the involved mobile too. Certainly not a big deal pricewise and performance has been top notch. Customer service, I dare say, is the best I've ever experienced, including from Nildram at their peak. Glad to see Tiscali go tbh, ruddy awful bunch of muppets. Any problems or questions? Phone up and get put through to some script reading moron who can't speak english. Phone up to cancel your contract? What a surprise, straight through to an english person intent on being as nice as possible.
Hate that sort of practice and I hope they don't return.
    Moo.
