Re: iPlate and ADSL / Be

The iplate is designed to minimise noise on a telephone line delivering ADSL, particularly noised picked up by the bell wire that is generates the ringing tone required by older legacy telephone instruments. The ringing signal is extracted at the master socket.

If you have a good signal anfd good speeds from an ADSL installation and those speeds are what you would expect given your distance from the exchange, you are unlikely to get much benefit from it (although as they are only about £10, it may be worth trying). You may want to try disconnecting the ringer wre for extensions from the master socket.

The iplate will have no benefit on cable installations or where telephone services are delivered over cable along with broadband.

Yes I have, and it gave me a marginally improved synch rate with Be*. nothing massive, though I have my line profile set for maximum stability rather than speed.

A friend of mine had one of these and only noticed a small improvement from using it. I removed the ring wire and his extensions and he got a 3.4mb increase in line speed, I wouldn't bother with the iplate.

When I first connected to Be Pro I only had a 7mb connection which I managed to get upto 20.2mb by removing my master socket and the extensions connected to it, then I fitted an NTE5 and a filtered faceplate leaving the extensions disconnected.

Re: iPlate and ADSL / Be

The iplate is also dependant on weather your nte5 socket is one of the new openreach sockets(which already have the bell wire removed) or the old bt wholesale nte5.

Re: iPlate and ADSL / Be

didn't really help me much, a filtered face plate was much better however.

line with house wire issues = upto 14Mbps
    i-plate = upto 15Mbps
filtered face plate with ring wire disconnected = upto 20Mbps
and then fastpath with 3db nets me upto 22Mbps

filtered face plate costs about the same as the i-plate, installation is longer and more tedious, but its one of those things when you've done one, you can do it again very quickly.

Might give trimming off the bell wire myself to see if it improves speed. (30 year old house so probably i have one).

Re: iPlate and ADSL / Be

A buddy of mine told me about them today.

He said his line went from 2mbps to 5.5 after 24 hours.

Im on the outer reaches of my exchange so for a tenner, its worth a punt.

    faced with 1.5mbps, anythings a bonus ;-)

Have you tried tinkering with your phone socket to get a better speed?, as I said in my post I had 7mb connection which I increased to 20mb by replacing the master socket and removing my extensions, removing my sky box's from the phoneline made a huge diference aswell.

Re: iPlate and ADSL / Be

I have literally just now disconnected the bell wire. My O2 connection syns speed instantly jumped from 3MB/s to 5MB/s - yay.

This is not bad considering my phone wires come across an overhead connection into a box located outside the house marked 'Post Office Telecomms'...
