Anyone use this?
My router supports USB 3G modems so I could use it as a backup if my line fails, and take it on the road with me when I occasionally travel somewhere.
The idea of not paying monthly is appealing.

I occasionally use that through my phone (Bluetooth dialup). My phone could only support up to UMTS standard, so I only get speed of about 40KBytes/s. It tends to drop packets in the evenings.
MSN is blocked, and there is a transparent proxy that compresses your images to reduce bandwidth usage. You can get around this by using a VPN service (I did it through uni's vpn).
FUP says 40MB/day but I've used over 80MB/day without problem.
Also note that you'll have to send a text to activate 5-day access booster (50p/day), otherwise its capped at a quid per day.

You could disable loading images etc on web pages if you wanted to keep bandwidth usage low.
FUP is done monthly from what I can see:
- This plan comes with a fair use policy of 3GB a month. We'll monitor how much you send and receive each calendar month so that we can protect our network for all our Mobile Broadband customers. If you use more than your fair use policy amount, we won't charge you any more, but we may restrict how you can use your plan, depending on how often you go over your amount and by how much.

The unused credit on all PAYG except vodafone expires after a month.
So if its for router backup, best bet would be vodafone 3g,
then you can leave £15 on it for a year....

Doesn't on T-Mobile, either.
Your O2 PAYG data credit doesn't expire?

3's payg mobile broadband payg credit also expires at month end
t-mobile works on number of days (or part) access, not a data limit;
e.g. pay £2 for 2 days... and transfer 500k on two seperate days = used up.
Not sure if it expires with non-use...have to trawl through t+cs
vodafone give you a 1GB data usage (£15) to be used with no set time limit,
lasts several months anyway.
Reading this:
http://mobile.broadbandgenie.co.uk/n...you-go-service
reads as though t-mobile have only just started (or haven't yet started) such a service.

You are misreading it. It is basically saying that if you buy a data allowance pack ie 2.50 for 5 days then it will last 5 days. Earlier, you said just credit, not data credit. Also, with T-Mobile for example, you purchase credit by duration, not data allowance (although fair use policies do apply). It has nothing to do with PAYG credit. I've always used PAYG and my credit has never expired.
Ah, ok, I see what you mean, i misunderstood.
Looking at it another way, for £15 on O2 you could get one month and 3GB or 7 days and 3.5GB of data. All depends on what you want. That 1GB has cost you a lot more on Vodaphone if you use it within a month.
