    would updating drivers make any difference to speed

    i baught the http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=222185

    but its got the orignal install drivers on it, would updating the drivers which it says there is an update for? will it improve the connect and speeds? or is it not worth doing becuase some drivers can make things worse.

    It's worth a go.

    The only time I've had an issue with a driver is when I let Vista install the Realtek drivers Windows Update presented me with. My ethernet died quite spectacularly on this machine.

    Once I rolled the drivers back in Vista, everything was hunky dory again. I don't know what the problem was exactly, but I've not had any problems since and just tell Vista to ignore the Realtek update whenever it asks.

    edit Oh, another point: as wireless dongles like that are heavily dependant on firmware as opposed to just hardware, updates are generally a good idea from a compatability point of view.

    I had some odd drivers installed for my gigabit ethernet controller and suffered dropouts pretty regularly. I incorrectly assumed the cable was at fault, but have since discovered it wasn't. After replacing the driver everything is hunky dory, so yes, probably worth a try I'd say.
