Gah - What can I do now?

Ok, so im moving house and I'm currently with Be....checked what will be my new postcode online (its only 5mins walk from where I am now) BUT apparently my new house cant get Be...?

So I check online, and my local exchange at my new address will be - http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/WMNEW
Which clearly says that Be are in that exchange as I already know, as its the exchange I am ALREADY ON...

    I've called up Be broadband and explained that online says unavailable, but I know for a fact they are there - lady on the phone checks the exchange and tells me ;

"that exchange has reached capacity and we are no longer taking new orders for it"

so there you are - I cant transfer my existing account to my new property (as BT wont let me keep the same telephone number for some reason, and Be said even if I did keep the same number it still counts as a 'new order')

If its at full capacity why the hell havent they upgraded to accomodate more? It means I cant have o2 either, as theyre on the same kit

So - my next question is this - based on the details of the exchange above, what broadband should I be looking to go with?

Atm I get 10mb from Be, and my new house is closer to the exchange - I like their customer service, and I like the fact that their service isnt throttled/shaped or limited in any way...

Apparently I can get Virgin at my new place...but I dont watch anything I cant get on freeview, already have a 12month contract with BT which Im tied into for phone (which I only use for broadband) AND virgin media suck for broadband, everyone I know on one of theirs services is unhappy with it.

So who can I use now? I want at least 8mb, unlimited (properly) with no shaping/throttling.... basically I want the advertised speed, ALL the time, with no limits.... but I cant have Be / o2.... any options?

Re: Gah - What can I do now?

VM are brilliant, im on 20mb and im ages away from the exchange, that doesnt affect it. They sent us a free box for their tv and we get free setanta with it. They gave it to us, we dont pay at all. We pay something silly like £35 for 20MB BB and 2 telephone lines, tehy are incredible to get deals out of, say your leaving and they stick you on a decent package. 10MB virgin is really fast too, and even if you do get throttled you still get a decent speed, ive only been throttled once and that was aftere downloading 6gb of stuff in one go. They give low pings on games too i found. Virgin will give you what you request in 99% of all cases for speed.

Re: Gah - What can I do now?

Even if Be use the same network as O2, give O2 a try, phone up and see if its available (you can check online) if there is, then ask why Be says capacity is reached on that exchange, could be O2 reserve some for their network.

Re: Gah - What can I do now?

Cheers - have tried o2 as well and they have said the same thing - no availability for new orders as capacity has been reached :/

As for VM, as im already tied to a BT contract that I would have to pay to leave and I ONLY want broadband, plus my internet useage can at time be exceedingly heavy depending on my work, so VM is out - plus if I pay them for a service that is throttled I am condoning their action - If I pay for 10mb i expect 10mb all the time, i dont give a crap what excuse they offer for throttling - if they cant provide everyone with X.mb speeds, then dont offer them at all.

Re: Gah - What can I do now?

Can anyone tell me if Sky's broadband is unlimited? as Im at a loss to find anything in their small print to say that a fair useage policy applies....but that doesnt mean they havent tucked it away somewhere... otherwise i doesnt look too bad for £15 a month - slightly cheaper than the Be 24mb service I was on, and I wasnt getting near 16mb anyway...although getting closer to the exchange may see a boost.... will look into it.

Does anyone here use sky bb or have any knowledge of them? Im assuming I dont have to have their tv or anything like that, and can keep using bt for the phone?

They are unlimited with no throttling.

I've just looked at Zen, seriously expensive for what you get.

    Try Sky maybe?

With regards to VM, ONLY go on it if your recommended it by someone in that area, their service seams to vary wildly.

Re: Gah - What can I do now?

    I'd go for sky.
They have no limits or throttles and all and some of thier deals with tv are pretty good.
Only problem may be is that you are tied in with BT for phone.

I'd be glad that at least you have a selection. The only broadband i get is through BT's wholesale.

I'm on Sky, and whilst it isn't particularly fast, it seems to be unthrottled and unlimited.

    no... I won't give up.

I have to take my hat off to BE for telling you NO. Because if they DIDN'T tell you no, then you'd be in the hell that people on Orange/Sky/TalkTalk are all around the country. They are massively over-subscribed and the connection is truly dire.

So you should be sad that you cant get it, but grateful that they won't stiff you.

BE +1 vote of confidence from me for not stiffing people
