    question to O2 users

    Hello,

I've just connected to O2 after moving from Zen. Zen was twice the price (£34) and less than half the speed (6mbs) although reliable i thought i needed to save some cash (I didn't realise about the quidqo offer until later).

Anyway so far very happy with the service but i want to configure my existing router for use with O2. Now initially i tried to do this and I didn't get very far (i have the identical router but it's a Thomson 585 v7 branded one that i was using for the Zen connection). I ended up using the supplied O2 one but i wanted my one as a backup in case anything failed.

So i tried to follow the instructions (http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI-...ase,CASE=13409)

But I'm failing at the first steps (forgot to say connection is LLU):
    1) I can't change the VCI to 101, 38 only
    2) I cannot leave the username and password fields blank. The Thomson insisits on some value.
    3) I don't have a static IP address and the Thomson requires some value yet again.

Now i'm under the impression that the O2 router has a specific firmware while the Thomson one is different.

    Can anyone help of suggestions?

    Cheers.

Other than that i'm very happy with the O2 connection so far....

    Re: question to O2 users

I vaguely remember my attempts at using a non-O2 router.

There should be a different encapsulation method or something, which when you switch the router to it will take away the box for user name/password. It's not clear, so ask in the o2 forums for more help.

However, even after I got my old router set up the connection was extremely flaky.. I ended up giving up and switching to the O2 box which works flawlessly out of the box.

Have you tried the Thompson website for help, perhaps they have a firmware update to allow these settings to be changed.

Personally the Thompson router is quite terrible, even one being supplied (Be uses the same)

    Re: question to O2 users

I'm using a non-O2 router but I am at work at the mo and won't be back home until later this evening (about 11pm). I'll check in later and if you still don't have a solution I can check the settings on my linksys.
