    Virgin Media 20MB+ users here!

    Hi,

Still using an old virgin modem, not achieving full speed?

    http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html...vice_20MB.html

Just go there and put the details in and you get a new one (not sure which one though - will post when I get mine!)

    Peter.

    It's 4.98*

Re: Virgin Media 20MB+ users here!

I got sent one from Virgin automatically when they moved everyone on the (then top package) 10mb to 20mb and my old Motorola Surfboard wasn't up to the job anymore. I used to have to reboot it every now & then.

The new one is a Scientific Atlanta 2100 and has never given me any bother, and is about half the size.

I doubt a new modem will fix the main issues with VM to be honest.

I think you are right. Its way deeper than just another modem.

BTW....do they not make you restart the contract if they send another router? I would check because being stuck in a VM contract is akin to scoring an own goal playing for Columbia

    Nope, a new contract isn't a requirement.

To be fair I have never had any problems with VM, perhaps i'm just one of the lucky ones.

Nope. Cable isn't like ADSL - You have to use their hardware.
If they send you a new one out, they have the old one back. You need one of their devices to use the service legally

Not sure why a new modem would equal a new contract.

I got sent a new modem without prompting and have not had any problems with them to date...

... But if you want a decent speed then you have no other choice than Virgin around these parts. ADSL != good.

Erm, they only have the old one back if you "remember" to post it back in the pre-paid bag. I know it's of no use but me and my ole Surfboard had been together since the beginning so I couldn't send it back...it's gathering dust with all the other assorted treasure in the garage.

Cable is going to differ from area to area, but they pick most modems up around here and certainly chase the ones they don't get back

edit - having said that, you live right next to me

When they sent me an Ambit modem they said to dispose of the old surfboard in an enviromentally safe way.

And a few months later when I ditched them, They said I could keep the Ambit modem incase I ever returned to them.
