    Cable downstream power check

I've noticed downstream bandwidth on my cable connection varies a lot and can drop very low sometimes. I just checked 192.168.100.1 and the downstream power level is -13.6 dBmV and I've read on a few websites that this is outside the ideal range of 8 to -8. Could this be a problem?
    Also,

    SNR = 34.4 dB
Upstream pwr = 51.0 dBmV (which also seems a little high)

So, is it worth calling VM?

    Thanks

Downstream Receive Power Level : 10.2 dBmV
    Downstream SNR : 40.0 dB
Upstream transmit Power Level : 32.0 dBmV

Dont know wether mines good or bad tbh?

I think the ideal ranges also depend on the chipset of the modem, these are mine:

    Cable Modem Downstream
    Downstream Lock : Locked
    Downstream Channel Id : 7
    Downstream Frequency : 330750000 Hz
    Downstream Modulation : QAM64
    Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
    Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : 2.6 dBmV
    Downstream SNR : 37.9 dB

    Cable Modem Upstream
    Upstream Lock : Locked
    Upstream Channel ID : 3
    Upstream Frequency : 40900000 Hz
    Upstream Modulation : QAM16
    Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 54.0 dBmV
    Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

If your not getting your expected download/upload speeds it could be a problem.

EDIT:if thing VM will ask you to do is turn your modem off and on - see what happens beore you call them

    Re: Cable downstream power check

I do get proper speeds most of the time, it just seems it can drop at random times, even during the middle of the night. And it can come back as quickly as it went. Maybe it's just VM messing with whatever they mess with.
My modem is a Moto Surfboard SB5101e.
