Alternative to netlimiter (Steam)

I have lots of trouble using netlimiter when running Steam games..does anyone know of any freeware net limiting software around? (Not just monitoring and metering..i want to be able to limit net speeds as i don't have any QOS on my router).

    Cheers, Roo

Limiting per application, or limiting per port/host?

I use m0n0wall on an Alix 2C3 to do firewalling and QoS - it works very well. The traffic shaping can be customised very well. Obviously, the downside is cost - the equivalent Alix 2D series would probably cost around £125. You could use a spare PC, or I suppose a virtual machine.

I just need a simple program really to limit bandwidth per application much as netlimiter does.
