    ADSL2 Upgrade

I got upgraded to ADSL2 yesterday, luckily I live very close to my exchange so have allways had a good connection.

I was using a PCI ADSL modem up untill 2 months ago and that allways connected at 7.6Mb, switched to a ADSL2 router and that connected at 8.128Mb.

I checked my router setting when I got home from work and it was offline, rebooted and connected at 20Mb.

    Speedtest.net from before upgrade

    After upgrade

I could allways max out the download before the upgrade even though speedtest only says 5.6Mb.
Now have to start thinking of things to download.

Good speed! What's that ISP like? Also do you know of any way to accurately predict likely ADSL2 speed (a friend would like to know)?

You could download the Win 7 RC if you want to download something big (I haven't tried it myself yet but from what I've heard it's definitely worth trying!): http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Win.../download.aspx

If your friend inputs their currrent speed and line stats into This site it gives a pretty good estimation.

Don't forget to disconnect the bell wire for optimum speed!

    Re: ADSL2 Upgrade

    Hi

I have been with Demon Internet since the days of dialup and have allways had excellent service but I am lucky as I only live 500m from the BT exchange. I pay £24 a month which is proberly a bit high but I have no reason to change.
I started on 512k ADSL and they have upgraded me over the years to 2Mb then 8Mb and now 20Mb without charging me any more money.
Before the upgrade Demons ADSL upgrade site predicted I would get 16Mb, as there are many things that can effect the speeds I think that was an estimate.

The site graystreet gave seems to work, I inputted my details from before the upgrade and it predicted 20Mb like I have so that seems like the one to try.

I allready have the Win7 RC1 client but will proberly download it again to see what the speed is like.

    thanks
