    Icy Box IB-NAS4220

    Anyone got one of these?

Thinking about getting one and sticking 2 x 1TB drives in it.
Two reviews I've seen of it seem to think that they are quite noisy - I think they have a 40mm fan which I would imagine would be quite noisy.
I would probably just stick it in my cupboard and run a bittorrent client off it so the noise wouldn't be a big deal.

They seem like a decent price too -

Any other NAS enclosures that I should consider?

    Re: Icy Box IB-NAS4220

I got one a while ago from Scan and popped 2 x 250GB drives in it. And am running it as an print server too. It's ace! As long as you make sure the drives are not Samsung drives, as they don't work with the NAS unit. It is queit anyway, I have it on a table next to the sofa and only just hear it.

Bugger I was going to get Samsung drives... I might get 2 WD green drives but I'm not sure how much they'd effect performances.

    Re: Icy Box IB-NAS4220

Been looking into NAS units recently myself, didnt know about the IcyBox offerings. Shame this won't play ball with my Samsung and WD drives. Did find this:

Looks like that might be an alternative with far better file system support to

    Supports CIFS,NTFS,FAT16,FAT32,ext2,ext3 file systems

    Re: Icy Box IB-NAS4220

Oh dear, I had one of these in the box on the "to do list" for ages. I had a few Samsung HD103uj's I was going to use There seems to be an awful lot of drives that are incompatible with this unit!! Where are all the custom programs for this unit I thought that was the "BIG ATTRACTION"? Has anybody had a good experience with 2 x Seagate 1.5TB drives?
