    Anyone use Talk Talk Broadband

Hi all, I'm currently using Plusnet option 2 (I think) and was going to change to Talk Talk as for a couple of ££ extra I can also get line rental included. Thus saving me about £13 per month.
Does anyone have any experience with Talk Talk broadband?

    Thanks

Re: Anyone use Talk Talk Broadband

I had a terrible experience with Talk Talk Broadband.

I experinced very low speeds, about 1.2mb, of course this is area dependant, but now with sky im getting around 7mb.

I had numerous problems trying to switch they just wouldn't let go.

I choose talk talk originally due to the price, but it was an awful experince. AVOID!!

    Thanks for your reply.
How long ago was this? I'd heard that they had loads of problems in the past but now seem to have it sorted?

Re: Anyone use Talk Talk Broadband

your best checking on the thinkbroadband forum

I've stopped helping people I know now with talktalk as their ISP.

This is down to the fact that a few local people I know who use this service get shocking speeds, especially at peak times and it's getting to a point now where they're signing IN and OUT of MSN when their connection keeps going up and down. Guess who keeps getting calls at 8-9pm at night asking why this is happening.

You get what you pay for really with most ISPS. The cheapest route is not always the best route to take.

On another note it depends what you want it for, the GF parents have talktalk with no issues really cheap package and for "Internet Browsing" it is fine.

Re: Anyone use Talk Talk Broadband

A friend of mine has it and its horrid.

I had to download some drivers for them on the connection. It was quicker to connect on 3G and download them, even though the sync speed was higher on the broadband.

And Lee, I know exactly what you mean about the MSN issue. She has it too, but TalkTalk deny everything.

I have to agree with the other posts here. You get what you pay for.
For light use it's OK. I've got friends who use this service, but for me I'd never go with them.

Thanks guys. Looks like it really isn't worth it then. Especially to get tied in for 18 months

    Thanks again for the input.

Re: Anyone use Talk Talk Broadband

My 18 months with Talk Talk weren't that bad actually. I was connected at the full 8mb a lot of the time. However if you're a heavy downloader you will get capped during peak hours, also towards the end of my contract I was starting to get a lot of drop outs which lead me to switching to Sky + Sky Talk, who are slightly more expensive (around £10 if you go with max) but I am much happier with it.

On the downloading note I often went around 10-20gb over my 40gb usage and never once got a letter through or anything. So thats good

Re: Anyone use Talk Talk Broadband

Talk talk are ****, however as with most things you get what you pay for. If all you need is a simple browsing net connection. Do it!

    Known issues :-

Their DNS is crap, use alternative if you can
The PPP connection often takes 10-15 minutes to come up. So don't expect any internet for 20 mins after you modem resyncs.

BTW I'm not on talk talk, but I've spend the last couple of days trying to sort out my mates

I worked there for 6 months and know a lot of ppl who also worked there.

There idea of support is a joke.

Re: Anyone use Talk Talk Broadband

Unfortunately I'm now with talk talk. I was with Pipex which then became Tiscali which has now become Talk Talk, each time the customer service has become progressively worse. The internet has been reasonably fine thought with the occasional problem and the speed has been very solid (about 6mb), however their billing and customer service when things go wrong has been dismal at times.

Anyhow to cut the long story short today I requested a MAC code and am now hopefully moving to O2 and BT (for a anytime calls). Funnily enough their (Talk Talk) retentions department was UK based...

Re: Anyone use Talk Talk Broadband

Ugh where do i start with Talktalk?

I've been with them for about a year and a half now.
First of all i experienced shocking speeds, with the connection not working for weeks at a time in periods. Then when i rang up they determined that the fault was my end and not theirs and that they would send round an engineer at a cost of £100 minimum. My father wasn't having any of it so he got round one of his best mates (who was an engineer with British Telecoms for about 20 years) and he found no faults with the line.

If you try telling TalkTalk the problem is at their end they fob you off with something like, I'll run a line test and call you back in a couple of days and never do.

Having said all that my speeds at now 3mbps when they were 0.7mbps a few months ago.

    I'd avoid.
