Hi all
I have a real headache of a problem that’s affecting our entire network. Ok on Tuesday we had a new ISDN line installed as we are now running a VOIP phone system. All was fine up until Wednesday afternoon when no one could connect to the server or the internet. Yesterday mourning the systems were intermittent. Connection to the server would work then drop out and so would the phones. After many reboots and restarts we noticed that one of our switches was blinking like mad! (a Cisco managed switch) we turned off both switches to enable the VOIP system to run on its backup analogue lines then we turned the switches on one by one. With the first switch turned on the VOIP system reverted to running on broadband. It held up fine for 30 mins with no dropouts. Then we turned on the other switch and the VOIP system dropped immediately so we concluded that we needed a new switch. This arrived this mourning and was connected up. Now the phones work fine but we still cannot connect to the server or internet! I have unauthorised and re-authorised DHCP, I have checked all connections at the switch and I have connected the router to a stand alone laptop to make sure I could connect to the internet.
I cannot ping the router or server over the network nor can I connect to any shared folders. I know nothing about VOIP systems but I’m curious if the box on the wall that manages the system gives out IP’s, which may conflict with our DHCP server. We know have 2 ISDN boxes on the wall but only one has a green light (the other occasionally comes on but then goes off after a few mins)
A solution to this would be much appreciated!!!
Thanks
Ross
