    Gigabit home plug

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Belki...HD-Starter-Kit

    To anyone at Scan:

Um... can I borrow a pair for, like, the weekend? To test 'em, and that? I've got 3 of your cheapy ones at the moment, 100Mbps, and they're pants at video streaming.

Not had the stock to try them yet unless we have had samples. I am surprised your 10/100 connection is poor for steaming tbh.

    Re: Gigabit home plug

I get average data transfer rates when moving files around (either 800meg AVIs or 4 - 8 gig DVD rips) or 7.5 meg a second.

When I try to play a video file from the server (which is a DNS323 at the moment) it takes 30 - 40 seconds to initiate, Playback is generally OK, sometimes some pauses, but seeking can be slow.

MKVs, oddly, seem better than other formats.

    Setup:

02 wireless box 2 directly connected to Main PC.
HTPC and server BOTH connected by home plugs, which are joined to the network by a homeplug connected to the router.

    Ah...

Might that be an issue? The HTPC and the server are effectively "sharing" the same connection to the router through the home plugs? Thinking about it, given that they're on static LAN IPs on teh same subnet, might they also be talking to each other directly over the home plug "ring"?

I'm seriously thinking of getting some of these, my flat mate still wont let me rip up the carpet meanie.

But no one seams to have stock, no one has done reviews, i'd end up returning them if they weren't significantly better than my 200mbits (syncronous total) ones.

Same here, I'd love to have a gigabit ethernet structure in place, but living in a rented property sucks when it comes to things like this.

Their exterior is pretty sexy...well, as sexy as a glorified power plug can be - especially compared to my white generic "value" homeplug adapters

    Re: Gigabit home plug

This review likes it, says speeds are 560Mps (read speed).

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2350634,00.asp

Was $150 for one for them so the price is likely to be £100+ each

    Re: Gigabit home plug

Well I bit the bullet and bought a pair.

I was hoping my flat mate would finally let me finish wiring up the flat, but alas no.

So i bought a pair of the belkin gigabit homeplugs:
    http://www.google.co.uk/product_url?...AA&gl=uk&hl=en

And well, they're good, rather good.

I have no problem streaming 1080p vid straight from a shared blurary drive.

I have no problem when the waterpump kicks in either, and the latency is next to nothing.

In all quite happy, but would prefer some wire thou.

Glad to hear they are working well. What transfer rates are you getting?

    Re: Gigabit home plug

Do these work with systems on the same networking using cat 5/6 cables as some kits can't work if other wires are being used?

    Re: Gigabit home plug

Rates, I've not done any specific bench marking, but i'm having absolutely no trouble streaming blu-ray content, so it must be fairly good. I won't lie to you guys, i seriously can't be arsed to do any benchmarking anymore (sorry!).

Joel, i'm not sure i get the question? These things have regular mains voltage plugs on them, and an RJ45 socket for gigabit. So you should be using Cat5e or better. I'm not. I have one going straight into a 5 port gb switch on a old 5 meter patch cable i had lieing about. Works just fine
