    Another which ISP thread!

Now as the title says i'm tempted to switch ISP's but have real problems due to lack of them at my exchange.

I'm currently on Tiscali and before you all slag them off i've had it ok with them (touch wood). My speeds have been pretty decent during most of the day and it's only in the evening when i have problems for downloading files but normal web browsing is fine.

Now at my exchange the only LLU is Talktalk.
Now i feel that they may be able to give me the best speeds as they can operate a speedboost up to 24. I've just got a few niggles with them though.

One will i actually get a higher speed. I'm currently syncing at 7 roughly on normally asdl and on asdl 2+ will i see and improvement.
Two is they're broadband download is limited to 80gb (with download boost) and i reckon that i use possibly up to 100gb.
And thirdly is they do have a reputation for being rubbish but so do tiscali and i'm fine on them. I'd just have to hope that due to my exchange being small it wouldn't get to congested. I'd have to find out the speeds from someone in my area who has it or take a gamble.

Another option i've though of is O2 Access as o2 is meant to be a decent company but i've heard of it getting over subcribed.

Anyone else want to chime in with some ideas.

    Hi there,

First of I would ask you what your postcode (if you feel comfortable giving that information away) is so that we can easily confirm that those are the only two providers you can get. Some of the more obsure (read, better) ISPs are hard to track down.

As to your other question, assuming both providers use ADSL2+ and the same standards, which they likely will, you will not see any speed difference bar the different traffic shaping policies (or lack there of) they have.

Download limits are important, what do you typically download, and we will see if we can determine that you will actually go over 80GB.

As for reputation, I cannot be sure. The only two broadband providers I have used are Virgin Media ADSL service (read BT resold by Virgin) and Be*.

I can understand why you want my postcode but i'll just say that i'm connected to the downton exchange.

As for going over the limits i know i download over 80gb as last month i monitored by usage and it came to 75gb not including 2 other pcs and my xbox.

Only Talktalk is ASDL 2+ i think as it's llu but one of the reason i want to move is to be able to have faster downloads at peak times (speeds drop to 1-2mb/s) which i why i was considering O2 Access as O2 seems to get excellent recomendations.

If you do a search of this forum about Talk Talk you will probably find the general consensus is to avoid using them under any circumstances.

Generally because they oversubscribe their lines and their tech support is crap.

Best paying that wee bit more and going for someone like Zen, 02 or Be* who have good track records and people on these forums rave about them.

If you had noted the link he provided to the exchange his exchange ONLY provides TalkTalk or BT.

EDIT: Confirmed this with the Be* website, who do not list the exchange in their list of supported exchanges.

Yes, the only LLU supplier in that exchange is TalkTalk. That doesn't mean he can't phone up another supplier and get broadband from them.

It does however decrease his changes of getting high QoS from said broadband provider. Since TalkTalk are the LLU, they will likely traffic shape anything they sell wholesale in the same way that their customers get treated. Maybe even more so.
