    Issues after upgrade to 24meg

Got the offer of a free upgrade to 24 meg so had a day of down time while BT messed about.

Well that was a month ago and my line has been all over the shop ever since.

I sync up at 19 down and 1.2 up.

Speedtest shows real world at 16 down and 1 up.

I know that the line will fluctuate when it is first upgraded for maybe a week them you resync and that should be the best that that particular line can deal you.

Well last night i booted up and the internet was at a crawl.

Off to speedtest.net and i was amazed to get consistent pings of 1400ms. No thats not a typo !!

A screen shot for you all :

I have fired of a support request to IDNet.

In all fairness they have been very good in responding to me but the issue is that the problems are not consistent. My line is A OK now but i want a 99.9% reliable service.

Does anyone know of any good network monitoring tools. I was thinking of maybe uploading something and torrenting it through my work PC to give constant traffic.

    What do people think ?

Re: Issues after upgrade to 24meg

I get the same speeds every now and then since being bumped upto 16mb with Nildram (Tiscali/Pipex). DNS fails to work, website pages can take upto 10minutes to load, speeds are between 1kb/s and 6kb/s (yes, slower than a 33.6k modem ). It has always returned to normal within 12-24 hours.

I've put it down to automatic line throttling and punishment for heavy downloading. As I'm leaving soon I havn't bothered to complain.

'sadbuttre', you could try opendns's servers next time your DNS fails, worked well for me in the past.

Strange problems you're having at 24Mb. I'm with BE and get similar speeds to you (but 2Mb upload), never had any strange problems like that.
If you want to monitor the ping rate, use pingplotter, great software.

Also, get a call logged with BT!
