Thieves stole my internet !

So here I was on Sunday morning reading some emails and then nothing! No internet connection and no Phone either. Rang BT who said it was a line fault within a few minutes of them checking. Called BT again last night to see what the delay was - Someone had stolen 500 metres of underground cables on Sunday morning! I have to congratulate BT for getting such a major problem fixed so quickly.

That was exactly my thoughts, Just seems unbelievable that someone could steal them during the day! Last night the BT person I spoke to said around 800 people had been affected by it.

Initially I thought it was a joke too, Then I had a look around on the interweb and it has been happening all around the UK. The price of copper is high so it has become worth their while to do it.

The problem is all the disruption it causes.

Believe it or not, they are also stealing drain and manhole covers! These however are being replaced with resale value metal. Lead and copper roofs from buildings are also disappearing. Stealing the cables is quite easy they just attach to the back of a car and drive away, so it does alot of damage to the infrastructure, good on BT for replacing it so fast.

Pikeys. They steal all kinds of stuff that even run of the mill criminal scum can't be bothered to steal.

They also nick the cables used on the railway, the heavy guage stuff that connects to the 3rd rail. To be honest I've recycled copper from skips in the past, including lots of cable, although we cut the insulation off, rather than burning it.
