My parents live out there & its painfull, especially when mated to a 1gb monthly allowance!. Off peak you might be lucky to get 256k, on peak/daytime it drops to 56k! That more or less rules out looking at anything except google home page & website in their mobile phone compatible modes.
it wont beat my 24mb connection :L
bit of a stupid experiment, i'm sure i could throw a usb stick to my next door neighbour quicker than i could upload to them, doesn't really tell us anything lol
tanker is faster than the main trunk between the UK and the USA if I fill it to the brim with 32GB memory cards.

It does raise an interesting question though for companies who move large amounts of static data. Is it in fact easier to simply copy the contents locally and then use a courier to get them to your remote site?
Also, are we finally reaching the stage where file sizes for some digital applications have outstripped our resources to deliver them? Should we be looking at mirroring popular data to local resource centres instead of putting an ever-increasing strain on our major interconnects.
