    Re: Virgin Capping...

Its supposed to throttle/slow down if you download over 'X' amount of GB between certain times. But if you know you hit around the speed you pay for, so 10Mb in this case, and your hitting speeds of 10Kb/s it would suggest that its something other than throttling as you should be throttled to around 300KB/s i thinks.

    Re: Virgin Capping...

no, its definately throttling as i was downloading fine until i downloaded around a gig of data and then it rather abruptly got killed...

300kb was what i was expecting when i hit the limit to be fair... but 10kb/s is taking the pee ever so slightly~

This is why i suggested it could be some other issue. Try and make sure its only your PC/laptop that is using your internet connection then run a speed test or something.

    Re: Virgin Capping...

its slow because the upload speed is also throttled to a mere 100kb/s and its bloody unstable!. I hate the throttling and you certainly are experiencing that.

1.5gb between 4-9pm, throttled down to 2.5mb/s after that(unstable, varies from 0.5-2 on mine!).

    L column

so daytime 10am-3pm, 3GB limit on downloads

    nighttime 4pm-9pm 1.5GB down, 3pm-8pm 800MB up

most people can easily break evening management so be careful what u download. throttles for 5 hours!!

but as people said, 10kb/s sounds like it's not your fault (bytes or bits?)

    Re: Virgin Capping...

This is why I left VM. I got told from a tech support guy on the QT that they see iPlayer as a torrent app & it's automatically throttled. Plus VM's service was unbelievably poor anyway. Never again.

When you get throttled it's down to 25% of your speed for the next 5 hours, unless you're on their 50Mb service (until they start capping that too)

    Re: Virgin Capping...

Anyone get a service drop out today??? Came home to find the router internet sign was flashing! Looked at the modem to see the last light on the right was flashing too. So just unplugged both and had a connection back. Didn't see any problem on VM status site.
