Netgear WGR614v9 router loosing network

I am trying to set up my daughters wireless internet. I have configured the WGR614v9 router, WPA security and I can access the internet but the connection is lost and when I look at the available networks the network name I set up is not on the list. This happens on all computers connected to the network. I am unsure how to get a reliable connection. Any help in sorting this out would be very much appreciated. This ISP is Virgin Media, Operating Systems XP, Vista Home premium

So does the wireless network re-appear later of its own accord or do you have to reboot the router to get it back?
Do you know what version of firmware its running (the latest appears to be 1.2.24)?
Might also be worth checking what channel other nearby wireless networks are on (using something like netstumbler) and switching yours to a different frequency.
