I am currenly looking at the below.
Seems very up to date and powerful
Thecus N2200

Oh cheers, will have a look at thst, wasn't thinking particularly about raid, but yes it's an option.
I'd recommend anything by Synology. I've had a DS207 for a few years now. It's truly excellent for backing up data. I use it for a number of other things too like an ftp/web server as well as a subversion server.
It streams videos/music/photos to any DLNA compliant device too such as xbox/ps3 or windows media player.
Really couldn't recommend it enough!
Cheers ODC![]()
If you want cheap try Edimax NS-2502, should do the job
I use the netgear readynas duo. They are very good indeed.
Thanks for the insights guys![]()
Another vote for Synology here.
I've got one of their 1 bay NAS units and it's fanastic for streaming stuff to the various xbox 360 consoles I've got around the house![]()
Went with the Synology DS209j from Scan. Been brilliant so far. Dead easy to set up and very quick, quiet and just easy.
Another vote in favour of Synology, i have the DS-408, fantastic bit of kit.

Thanks for this guys - spent too much of today trying to decide between the Netgear Stora and the ReadyNAS - and now realise I should have been looking at the Synology DS210j all along. At least I have seen this before getting the credit card out!
Cheers
Build yourself a server.
I had a NAS box, a Dlink. I can't remember the model name now, for media sharing and back up. the expansion was limited to two bays, and it wasn't very fast. So I build a server and haven't looked back. Home Server is fantastic, I've got 3tb of movies, photos, music streaming over the house.
My HTPC: Linky
Surely the technical knowledge required to self-build and implement a server on a home network is vastly more than that required to set up a NAS aimed at the relative novice?
