    Re: internet speed test

Speedtest.net seems to give very erratic results. Normally I download a large file from a site I know to be fast but http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ seems to be one of the better speed test sites.

This worked pretty well for me. Says my download speed was just over 2.1mb/s which is exactly what I get when downloading from steam, fileplanet, etc .

    Re: internet speed test

speedtest.io gives my download speed as 3000 Kbits/sec with 10 per cent variation over 5 runs but thinkbroadband speedtest within 30 mins with 5 runs varies from .8mbps to 6.2mbps. is this unusual?

It didn't like Opera, but clearing the cache and IDing as IE did the trick. Thanks.

I like to use this one or this one.

SpeedTest.net is useless in my opinion, never accurate for me.

Just tried the above an got an error message.

However my expected speed was 0.25 meg and all speed test give me between 2 and 3 meg. I live in the middle of nowhere miles from my exchange so I am impressed with my service.

Managed to get it to work. Tells me that my expected speed is 3Meg: I get 1.6 - 2Meg, but just after Tiscali took over from Homecall/Pipex I got 3.1Meg so it seems accurate (the 3 was real, according to the rate for the first 100MB of Ubuntu from Oxford Uni on a Sunday morning).
